Penrith, NSW – Succeeding in the first job is not always easy, either due to no experience or misalignment for the type of employment. Many young people struggle to succeed in their first job, often having difficulties in the early stages of job search. While there is no doubt that young people can perform in their first job with all the professionalism and skills required, it is also a fact that it takes a little more than just the desire to do well.
YES Youth Employment Services is an employment centre based in Penrith created to train young jobseekers to reach their full potential and acquire all the skills necessary to succeed in the world of work. This centre is a division of School Industry Partnership, and its free programs are designed to help individuals between 15 and 24 years old create the right job opportunities by enhancing their skills. Whether they have had some unsatisfactory work experience or are looking for their first job, this centre offers young people the possibility to train and find a job according to their needs and interests.
“At YES, we empower our young people to reach their greatest potential and show them how to shine in the workplace. We believe that every young individual has talent that is beneficial to employers in the workplace workforce. We have over 20 years of experience connecting young people, businesses, and people from the world of work to inspire young people to reach their full potential.” Said the representative for YES Youth Employment Services, regarding their mission and their vast experience.
YES Youth Employment Services has designed a 4-phase program that begins with identifying the youth’s interests, strengths, and talents. The program helps them explore appropriate career paths, develop their career goals, and a plan to help them achieve them quickly and effectively.
The readiness preparation phase encourages the young people to participate in the different workshops, where they will learn important things such as resume preparation, application submission, interviewing, interview attire, personal development, and other sector-specific knowledge.
With a career plan in place and appropriate training, young people are ready to participate in the model’s third and core phase, where individuals are encouraged to apply for and participate in any suitable employment opportunities. This is achieved through their dedicated YES job board, which gives the youth access to a community network and recruitment opportunities. This phase also allows them to undertake face-to-face self-marketing with the support of their coach, who helps them build relationships with employers and businesses and maintain connections for future opportunities.
Last but not least, this Employment centre provides Post Placement Support for up to 6 months after getting the job. This fourth phase of the program aims to ensure that everything is going well and offer any needed support for successful, ongoing employment and career development.
